SICK TO DEATH

Television series, 8 x 30 min

A black comedy that follows the combustion of Chance (25, dying of boredom) and his mother Miriam (50, dying of cancer) and their co-dependent relationship. When Chance discovers that Miriam has been having a secret love affair with a woman named Lala (55, a smile to come out for) he is shocked. How dare Miriam have the audacity to do anything other than be sick and pathetic, Chance decides to reclaim the life he sacrificed to move home and care for her in the first place. Dragging all sorts of local characters into their orbit — siblings, lovers, exes, drug dealers — a twisted feud emerges between mother and son, who prove they can have their cake (and deep throat it too). Making a complete, glorious mess of everything, neither Chance nor Miriam can predict how necessary and life-affirming their descent into the fiery furnaces of their humanity will become. And how a stubborn refusal to accept the inevitable will transform their lives, the lives of those around them and bring about the forming of a (very dysfunctional) alternative family.
